Socoro 1964

A police officer investigated what he thought was a car accident in the desert. Instead, he found an egg-shaped craft on metal legs with two small figures in white coveralls standing beside it. On the side of the craft: a strange red symbol. He drew it immediately. Years later, the same symbol appeared in UFO cases across the world - witnesses who never met, never saw his report.
April 24, 1964. Socorro, New Mexico. 5:45 PM.
Officer Lonnie Zamora, a 10-year patrol veteran and WWII veteran, was chasing a speeding car when he heard a roar and saw flame in the sky. Thinking it was an explosion at a nearby dynamite shack, he abandoned the chase and drove toward the source.
What he found in a desert arroyo changed UFO investigation forever.
An egg-shaped object, white or aluminum colored, about the size of a car, resting on four metallic legs. And standing beside it: two figures, small - child-sized, around 4 to 4.5 feet tall - wearing white coveralls.
One of the figures turned and seemed startled to see Zamora. Both quickly entered the craft.
Zamora noticed a red symbol on the side of the object - like an insignia or marking. He made a mental note of it.
Then the craft emitted a deafening roar, blue flame shot from beneath it, and it lifted off. Zamora dove behind his patrol car. The object hovered briefly, then flew away at incredible speed - completely silent once airborne.
Zamora radioed for backup. Sergeant Sam Chavez arrived within minutes. Together they examined the landing site.
Four symmetrical landing pad impressions - forming a perfect quadrilateral pattern. Each mark was deep, pressed into hard desert soil. Bushes nearby were still burning - smoldering from the heat.
The FBI was called. Military investigators arrived. This was during Project Blue Book, so Dr. J. Allen Hynek - the Air Force's scientific consultant on UFOs - came personally to investigate.
Hynek interviewed Zamora extensively. His conclusion: "This is one of the best cases I've investigated. Officer Zamora is credible, reliable, and had no reason to fabricate this. I cannot explain what he saw."
Project Blue Book classified the case as UNIDENTIFIED - one of only 701 out of 12,618 cases they couldn't explain.
But here's where it gets weird.
Zamora drew the symbol he saw on the craft immediately after the encounter - before any media coverage, before anyone else saw it. A simple but unusual design: kind of like an arrow or character, red in color.
In the years that followed, that same symbol (or remarkably similar versions) appeared in other UFO cases:
Ohio, 1966 - witness describes craft with identical red symbol
France, 1967 - report includes sketch of same marking
Brazil, 1971 - another case, another matching symbol
These witnesses were in different countries. They had no contact with each other. Most hadn't seen Zamora's original report. Yet they drew the same symbol.
How?
If these were hoaxes or misidentifications, why would separate witnesses independently reproduce the same obscure symbol from a 1964 New Mexico police report most people had never seen?
The physical evidence at Socorro was undeniable: landing marks, burned vegetation, radiation detected at the site, multiple investigators confirming the traces.
Lonnie Zamora never sought publicity. He hated the attention. He refused payment for interviews. He told the same story until his death in 2009 - never changing a detail, never embellishing.
The symbol remains unexplained. Some researchers believe it's a marking system - different craft or missions using specific insignias. Others think it's a test to see if humans notice patterns across sightings.
Whatever it was, Lonnie Zamora saw it. He drew it. And it appeared again in cases around the world, drawn by people who couldn't have known about it.
One police officer. One desert landing. One symbol. Multiple global appearances.
Physical evidence. FBI investigation. Project Blue Book: UNIDENTIFIED.
What landed in Socorro? And why did its symbol appear again and again across continents?
